Fix a receding gumline?

I have a gumline that has receded in the bottom back of my mouth in the very back. One large tooth was extracted 10 years ago and recession took place in the gap by the next tooth. I go to a University dental clinic and they say there is nothing that can be done at this point . I will probably get a second opinion.. The recession has exposed some of the lower portion (below the nerve line) of the next tooth and causes pain with hot/cold senstaion. Can some sort of amalgam be used to cover the lower portion of this next tooth to prevent sensations? Any advice will be helpfull.Thanks.

Reply:Nope, once it's down, it stays down. There is no way to make it return to where it was. The only thing you can do is make sure it doesn't go any further by flossing and brushing well. Mine have been like that for over 5 years and I have tried to get a dentist to help. There is no way. Sorry!!!
